BMS236   Building Nervous Systems   (20 credits)

Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F5
Pre-requisites   BMS109

Description

This module aims to provide students with knowledge and understanding of how nervous systems are formed through the processes of development and the refinement of connections throughout life. It gives a description of the patterning of the early nervous system, the establishment of functional connections and their refinement through plasticity e.g. learning and memory. The module then draws on the systems involved in motor control and vision to demonstrate how systems formed through competitive development perform complex CNS functions.
